Mission III: An Experiment in River Sailing

In: 1, 2, 5, 6

What can I say, but “wow”!

A great day on the river.  Team 456 North camp left around 8am and made it to the Boatworks around 8:45.  We had coffee, Spot had a chocolate chip waffle and Der Commodore chowed down on his BYOL(axative) muesli.  By the time we dropped  Tink, gear, 1 and 6 at Hwy 130, drove to Webberville Park to drop the transporter and returned, it was about 11am.

Mother Nature held back the colder wind and rain until after we finished, so we had nice (albeit largely overcast) cool temperatures.  We hit a headwind for alot of the day, but had our moments with a generous wind from behind — allowing for sailing experimentation with a homemade sail, mast and boom.  I think we earned a badge for the sail.

I’m thinking that, next trip, I’d like to bring gear to cut some nice tire material out from all the tires we find and make some primitive huaraches.  Pretty sure that’s a badge too.

We capped off a nice day with the traditional BBQ.  Simply heaven.

ADDENDUM:

Here’s the hawk video:

…And, the video of the disgusting, presumably “treated” water runoff, that left the river looking like a filthy man’s bubblebath and couldn’t have possibly been good for the environment. It went on for miles…
